Experiential Learning

Experiential learning is quite simply learning through experience. This philosophy recognises that not all students find success in a classroom environment. Instead hands on, outdoor experiences are created for students that challenge them and require the use of practical problem solving skills to extend their learning. Academic subjects are taught by Tōku Ara staff who are qualified teachers. Staff focus on a Place based learning approach through Te ao Māori, Science, Geography, Te Reo Maori, Math, Health and interactions with local community members and mana whenua. Students apply the skills and strategies they have learnt from these lessons, into their Outdoor Pursuit experiences and their daily lives on campus.
