The Duke of Edinburgh's
Award

The Duke of Edinburgh's Award is the world's leading youth achievement award and is available to all students at WAS from age 14.  All Year 10 students are offered the opportunity to work toward their Bronze Award whilst at Tōku Ara. The purpose of the award is for young people to challenge themselves by developing a skill, getting physically active, giving service to their communities and undertaking adventurous journeys in the outdoors.

During Tōku Ara students will demonstrate commitment and determination to begin the requirements of the Service section, of the Physical Recreation section through the improvement of their running and general fitness, and of the Skills section with the new skills learned in our Connection Learning strand and Outdoor Pursuits. The Expedition section is covered by either the Bushcraft weekend or the 3 day expedition.
