Tōku Ara

My Pathway

Rangipo: 12th March - 6th April

Ruawahine:  23rd April - 18th May

Inā kei te mohio koe ko wai koe, I anga mai koe i hea, kei te mohio koe. Kei te anga atu ki hea.

If you know who you are and where you are from, then you will know where you are going.

It is our vision at Whangamatā Area School to develop connected, engaged lifelong learners through positive and productive partnerships and authentic learning experiences. Tōku Ara is a 26 day residential localised curriculum held at our Wharekawa campus in Ōpoutere. It has been specifically designed for the year 10 students of Whangamatā Area School. The Tōku Ara experience endeavours to expand on our students personal and social growth, well being, and competencies and attitudes already being developed at Whangamatā Area School.  Spending four weeks on our Wharekawa campus in Year 10 is a vital stepping stone in achieving our vision for our students.

Tōku Ara is split into two, four week curriculums; Rangipō for boys (Sunday 12th March - Thursday 6th April 2023), and Ruawāhine for girls (Sunday 23rd April - Thursday 18th May 2023). Each programme is named after the ancestral maunga in the Ōpoutere area. Students live on site at the Wharekawa Lodge with Tōku Ara staff. Communication with whanau is through writing and receiving letters.
